What Are the Different Tree Removal Methods?

Not Sure What Would Be the Best Way to Remove a Tree?

While movies depict tree removal and the shout of timber echoes around, this in reality very rarely happens. Most of the trees are removed starting from the top downwards, and then a limb-free trunk will either be cut or tipped over. The smallest branches will be trimmed and sent down to be loaded into a vehicle or a brush chipper. The latter can create a nice load of wood chips which can be used as mulch later on. The larger limbs will be cut into firewood-length and loaded onto a truck or trailer.

Often, when a crew arrives to remove a tree, they find that it is towering over either a building or a road. This can create a huge problem, as the limbs will not be able to be dropped as they are cut without causing damage to property or creating a hazard. The easiest method will be to lower the cut limbs to the floor with the aid of a rope. By tying a rope around the limb, the limb will be able to be cut and slowly guided to the ground, which avoids any contact with buildings or traffic. Also, depending on where the tree is, multiple ropes may need to be used in order to direct the cut wood.

While the standard method of tree removal is to use a chainsaw, there are several different variations to this process. Many tall trees will need a bucket truck, these will raise workers alongside the tree, they will then start to remove the tree in sections. This way removes any potential of dropping a full-size tree onto roads, buildings, etc. Another way is to climb the tree and start to cut the limbs while sitting in it.

The final step is cutting down the trunk. Most trees need to be cut multiple times in order to get portions of the trunk to the ground safely. To remove a tree, the cutters will need to make sure the tree can be safely handled once it is on the ground.
